Hopi artist, Ruben Saufkie Sr. of the Water Clan has been silver-smithing since 1988 in the Hopi overlay process. Ruben also learned the technique of tufa casting and is now combining the two styles together to create unique and one of a kind jewelry. “My five children and my wife, Barbie, have been the greatest gift Creator has gifted me. One other gift given to me by Creator is the art of making jewelry,” states Ruben. Ruben says he shares his life journey through all his jewelry.
In addition to making beautiful pieces of jewelry, Ruben is actively involved in his Hopi community. Ruben has been fortunate enough to be a part of two historical runs. The first being H2opi Run to Mexico City 2006, which he was the run coordinator. This run was to bring the awareness of Water Is Life. The second was The Fire Run from Mexico City to Hopi 2007. Ruben also helped coordinate this run that came to the Hopi people. “These two runs have been a big part of my spiritual path. I am very happy to share my experience on these two runs with everyone I meet. And may everyone and every living thing benefit as we all live together here on Earth,” says Ruben.
