    Gloria Kahe

Gloria is a Navajo woman, who grew up with her sheep herding family on the Navajo Reservation. She married Karen Charley’s brother, Sam Kahe who is Hopi. Gloria learned to make pottery by watching and helping her mother-in-law, Marcella Kahe. Marcella was awarded the Living treasure Award as a potter in 1993.

Gloria learned fast, and soon her beautiful pottery was in demand. A few of her awards include a first place from Red Earth, Oklahoma City, OK., and numerous ribbons for the best of classification and many other firsts, seconds, and third places.

Her husband,Sam, is  an artist, a Kachina carver and painter of  gourds with Hopi pottery designs. He prepares the clay for Gloria and helps with the firing.  Gloria has an adult daughter, Valerie, who recently has become a potter. Both of these artists use Hopi designs on their work.
